As seen on the Tsurumi Pumps UK stand at the recent Hillhead expo, the 'Stingray' pump flotation device certainly turned heads while offering some very real benefits.
The Stingray range enables the rapid and safe deployment of submersible pumps into large bodies of water, such as quarry sumps, reservoirs and lagoons.
Each Stingray incorporates robust foam-filled (and distinctly yellow) globular floats supporting a galvanised or stainless-steel chassis - the submersible pump is slung beneath the upper beam, as seen. Heavy duty skids are fitted as standard, or puncture-proof wheels can be specified.
The simplicity of the Stingray design ensures that pumps are set at the correct immersion depth and that launching and retrieval can be achieved in a straightforward operation. When used in conjunction with sturdy polyethylene pipe, the Stingray is simply pushed out and pulled back with nothing more elaborate than a 4 X 4 truck or telehandler.
This means that pumps can quickly be retrieved for servicing and maintenance, without staff having to venture into the water. This also removes the need for catwalks and pontoons to provide access to pumps.
The five-model Stingray range caters for submersible pumps up to 120kg, 200kg, 280kg, 600kg and 1400kg.
