The UK Plant & Tool Hire sector is not exactly bereft of trade bodies - the HAE/EHA, CEA and CPA to name but three - although the newly formed 'Hire United' has already attracted some of the biggest names in the industry.
Hire United is not yet on the same scale as other trade associations in the same arena, nor is it intended to rival or usurp them. However, what it currently lacks in scale it makes up with the reputation of its founding members, being the owners and managers of some of the UK’s leading independent tool and plant hire companies.
Kicking off the inaugural meeting, Alide Hire Services Director Brett Thompson was elected Chairman, with Mike Webb, of the Access Alliance and with automotive and extensive trade assocation experience, serving as CEO. Ben Jones from Plantool was also elected as Vice-Chair, joining the leadership team as they embark on their mission to empower independent hire firms through collaboration, shared resources and a unified voice in the industry.
The founding members of Hire United, who will effctively make up the 'council', include Alide Hire Services, Beaver Tool Hire, Hire and Supplies, Mark 1 Hire, Mr Plant Hire, Plantool, Rocket Rentals and UK Tool Hire. Together, these companies operate over 30 depots across the UK, providing high-quality hire services and equipment to local and national customers.
Brett Thompson, Chairman of Hire United, expressed his enthusiasm for the new association, stating: “It’s an honour to be elected Chairman of Hire United. This is a fantastic opportunity for independent companies to work together, share expertise and strengthen our position in the market. We are united by a shared commitment to quality, and I truly believe that together, we can achieve great things.”
We’re bringing together the best of the independent tool and plant hire sector," added Mike Webb. "Our members are not only committed to delivering excellent service but also to working together to elevate the entire industry. We will share best practices, improve access to deals and resources, and foster a strong, collaborative community. Our founding members already represent a significant force, but we’re just getting started.”
The association also extends its gratitude to Tom James for the informative presentation on Niftylift's new and forthcoming access solutions, highlighting the invaluable support they are already showing to the association.
Hire United Hire United is dedicated to representing the interests of independent tool and plant hire companies across the UK. The organisation provides a platform for collaboration, support and advocacy, ensuring that members have access to the resources, networks and opportunities they need to succeed. By working together, Hire United members are better equipped to compete in a market often dominated by larger players, while maintaining their commitment to quality and personalised service.
It's certainly early days for Hire United, but it has a laudable ambition, a nationwide reach and a fully functioning website. Around a dozen new members are already in the process of signing up, so get in touch with Mike Webb at mike@hireunited.co.uk to find out more.
