As seen in prototype form, at a press event in Zaragoza earlier this year, Atlas Copco has now launched the 'ECO Controller' energy management system.
The ECO Controller is built into all Atlas Copco’s battery-based energy storage systems (ESS) - including the ZBP and ZBC models - acting as the ‘brain’ of the unit and allowing operators to manage energy output and distribute the load onsite. The ECO human-machine interface (HMI) provides users with full control over their temporary power applications by optimising energy generation, distribution and consumption through advanced data management.
Atlas Copco has incorporated a suite of improvements, developed over a year of client feedback, focused on elevating user experience, data clarity, and operational efficiency. Updates include refreshed visual aesthetics and a streamlined interface, providing cleaner and more relevant monitoring data at a glance.
As it was described by Atlas Copco President of the Power and Flow division, Marco Gravina, the new system is simple enough in operation that even he could use it!
The new ECO Controller is able to communicate with third party systems to improve the modular setup of portable power plants. Integration of different generator brand’s controllers - such as DSE, CAT, Cummins and Comap - allows users to work with any generator in their fleet and maximises the compatibility with Atlas Copco’s portable power products.
The latest iteration also boasts integrated routines such as automatic calibration and charging derating, alongside configurable 'recipes' for various operational scenarios. Users will benefit from a highly customisable experience with dynamic screen updates tailored to their current setup. Furthermore, comprehensive troubleshooting aids have been integrated, providing informative messages, a clear state machine overview, centralised monitoring of all Energy Storage System (ESS) components, detailed rack isolation and cell temperature data, SD Card datalogging capabilities and enhanced manual operation controls.
The new system monitors the equipment, providing critical information about real-time health. It is user-friendly and intuitive, with a touchscreen panel and easily configurable settings, giving a visual state of the batteries and the load amount. Operators can also ensure that they are using the energy in the most efficient way to cut costs and reduce their environmental footprint.
