Hillhead is rightly renowned for large scale quarrying and heavy construction machinery - give or take the odd bit of more reasonably sized machinery dotted about. Practically overshadowed by the behemoths and even largely unheralded on the manufacture’s own stand, was a new compact battery storage system from Ward Power.

The dapper new device is apparently part of the company’s ‘BLOCK15’ series of modular mobile energy storage systems. While somewhat diminutive compared to other such equipment - the cuboid units measuring 1040 x 1092 x 1157mm,  yet weighing 670kg – they surely punch well for their modest stature.

First up the storage capacity of 33kWh, utilising safe LiFePO4 battery tech with a 90% depth of discharge. In terms of outputs, the units offer 15kW rated AC power (3-phase 380/400V), with a single-phase rated power of 5kW – or 7.5kW for up to one hour. Charging options include a 15kW rated AC charging input, alongside a maximum solar input power of 30kW.

Charging cycles is of course a consideration. Ward Power does not specify the precise figure, although Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are typically configured for long-term, heavy-duty rental usage.

The benefits don’t end there, either – there’s IP54 rating, to protect against limited dust ingress and water splashes, plus built-in hot aerosol fire suppression, natural cooling, and users are able to link up to six units in parallel to handle larger project demands. Oh, and they come in a fetching orange shade too.

Elsewhere on the Ward Power stand, the company showcased the Spike Series mobile energy storage system, which is optimised for heavy inductive loads like tower cranes, hoists and mining equipment. Also, the Power Series modular diesel generator hybrid storage systems, ranging from 153.6kWh to 474.2kWh.

Indeed, as far as power products are concerned, Ward Power seemed to have it covered. Meet the team at next year’s Executive Hire Show.
