A surprising development this morning, as we learn that prominent equipment supplier – Toolstream – has entered administration.
The company is well known for supplying a broad range of construction, automotive and DIY focused equipment - including brands such as Scruffs, Defender, GMC and Triton.
In many ways, the company competes in the same sort of arena as the likes of Hire Supply Company. And yet, as the latter prevails, the former is seemingly struggling – the message at the head of its homepage currently reading:
“Hywel Phillips and Gavin Park of Teneo Financial Advisory Limited were appointed Joint Administrators of Group Silverline Limited and Toolstream Limited (together “the Companies”) on 11 December 2025. The affairs, business and property of the Companies are managed by the Joint Administrators. The Joint Administrators act as agents of the Companies and contract without personal liability.”
While the above does not inspire much in the way of confidence, the website still seems to be operational. So there it is – yet another industry domino begins to wobble, and Toolstream is not alone in this regard. Weird times, indeed…
