Where large vehicles operate close to pedestrians and site workers, the benefits of real-time human detection are clear. Yet the cost and disruption of replacing entire camera systems has slowed adoption. A new retrofit solution from Brigade Electronics aims to change that.
The new AI HFR Box has been designed to bridge the gap between camera technology and modern AI systems. Rather than requiring fleets to remove and replace existing hardware, the compact unit installs between a vehicle’s camera and monitor. It processes live video feeds using advanced software to identify vulnerable individuals. When a person is detected, the system immediately triggers visual and audible alerts, giving drivers crucial extra seconds to react.
For fleets with dozens, or even hundreds vehicles, that distinction matters. Full AI camera replacements can involve significant capital outlay, vehicle downtime and system reconfiguration. In contrast, this plug-and-play adapter allows operators to enhance safety while retaining their existing cameras, monitors and cabling.
Originally developed for construction environments, the new system is engineered to perform across uneven terrain and in challenging weather conditions. However, its relevance extends beyond building sites. Urban delivery fleets, municipal vehicles and waste operations face similar visibility challenges.
As Robert Timms, Product Manager at Brigade Electronics explains: “The AI HFR Box is a unique solution which turns any commercial vehicle’s standard camera system into an intelligent human form recognition detection tool. It’s a significant step forward in vehicle safety which is affordable, sustainable and efficient.”
