The Scottish Plant Owners Association held its 75th AGM this month, where new members were welcomed to its executive committee and the contributions of those members stepping down were acknowledged.

Joining the executive committee are Graham Bow, managing director of Gordon Bow Plant Hire; Paul McCormack, managing director of Blackwood Plant Hire; and Craig Purvis, managing director of The Purvis Group.

Graham Bow is a former SPOA President and is rejoining the Executive Committee to add experience to a new and energised Committee. “I’m excited to be back at the executive table, spending time bouncing off ideas with some great industry leaders,” he said.

“Based on my own experience with depots across Scotland, I hope to bring a voice to the operated plant sector in our industry. At a time when the industry continues to face challenges, I hope that I can play my part within the Executive Committee to support our members in addressing those challenges.” added Paul McCormack.

Craig Purvis feels privileged to follow in his father’s footsteps as a member of the executive committee and hopes to build on the good work already achieved: “I am a strong advocate of apprenticeships in the industry and I believe in the value of starting from the ground up. I would very much like to be involved in the SPOA’s efforts to encourage young people to consider a career in the plant industry.”

Stepping down from the executive committee are Bryan Shilliday of Tam Shilliday Plant Hire and Groundworks; Gary Robertson, Operations Director at Hermiston Plant Hire, and former SPOA President Callum Mackintosh, managing director of Highland Hammer Hire and director of Hi-Skills.

"I would like to thank Bryan, Gary and Callum for all of their efforts over the years, " said SPOA President David Jarvie. "Callum in particular worked hard to foster a stronger relationship with the CITB and to develop opportunities for young people in our industry. The SPOA Apprentices of the Year awards, celebrated at our Annual Dinner, are an enduring part of his legacy.

“A warm welcome to Graham, Paul and Craig who I am confident will bring skills, tenacity and passion to the Executive Committee. I look forward to working closely with them.”
