Hearty congrats to Melody Mayow, of WHC Hire's Tewkesbury depot, who becomes the first woman to complete a plant hire NVQ at the company.

Mel joined WHC in September 2018 as a hire desk assistant, following a career in hairdressing in and around the Cheltenham area. Being brought up around bikes and tools all her life, the plant hire industry was almost home from home. After joining the Tewkesbury branch, she quickly achieved qualifications in plant moving, practical assessment of scissor lifts, abrasive wheel fitting and emergency first aid at work.

In 2019, a little over a year after starting at WHC Hire, she received funding through CITB to complete a Hire Desk Operative Level 2 NVQ. In May 2021, she was promoted to hire desk supervisor as she continued to study outside of work hours for her qualification. Due to the pandemic and multiple setbacks throughout, she has now been awarded her level 2 NVQ.

Speaking of the promotion, Depot Manager Jack Clutterbuck said: “At WHC Hire Services, the best customer service is what we strive to provide to all customers. Mel does not only provide the best customer service but always goes above and beyond in her role as hire desk supervisor. This qualification is not only recognition for her hard work but also shows the progress she has made since joining the company.”

“Mel has been a fundamental addition to the WHC team at the Tewkesbury Depot. It is astonishing to see how much in confidence she grown in confidence in the last 4 years, since being with us. She has built fantastic relationships with colleagues, existing and new customers, and most importantly grown as a person. Completing her NVQ during the pandemic was an incredible achievement and is a testament to her determination and willingness. She becomes the first woman to complete an NVQ at WHC and I’m determined to ensure she won’t be the last. A massive congratulations Mel from me and all of the team,” added MD James Clutterbuck.
