Among many highlights at the recent IRE/Apex expo in Maastricht was a new series of electrified platforms from Leguan. Nothing new in that, perhaps, although Finnish parent company, Avant Tecno, promises the new machines will deliver a full day's work on a single charge...

The new lifts are based on existing diesel-powered models, albeit employing Avant's acclaimed 'OptiTemp' liquid-cooled 27kWh battery in place of the usual block. The Legaun 170, 195, 225 and 295 all-terrain spider lifts will all feature the new battery tech - each matching their diesel counterparts in terms of performance, while being practically silent in operation and producing no emissions in use.

As seen and causing a minor stir at EHS2025, another advantage of the OptiTemp system is speedy charging. Using a 3kW 1-phase power source, the battery will charge from 10% to 80% in 5h 30min - or a mere 1h 50min with a 9kW 3-phase charger.

All of which was first presented in the main IRE seminar area, leading many to head outside into the APEX zone to brave the intermittent showers and try the Leguan 195 on display out for themselves. Fingers crossed that Avant brings one or more of the new machines to the 2027 Executive Hire Show.
