Clements Plant & Access Hire is celebrating 60 years of customer-focused service, and is planning a number of celebrations to mark this impressive milestone.
Since humble beginnings, as Clements Midlands Plant Hire, the company has transformed and grown into being one of the largest suppliers of construction plant and access platforms for hire in the Midlands.
When the company was purchased in 1967 by GW Deeley it became the in-house transport and plant supplier for the Coventry-based construction company. The move to hiring out plant to a wider customer base, outside of the Deeley Group, started in the 1980s and almost immediately Clements started to secure new business across the region.
As the organisation grew, the acquisition of Alljay Tool Hire in 1990 helped to transform the company and with the appointment of John Jennings, the future as a leading hirer of construction plant equipment was secured.
The move towards providing cherry picker and access platform hire came with the purchase of Leamington Spa-based Thumb-a-Lift. This small independent hirer of mobile aerial work platforms had a fleet of scissor lifts, boom lifts and equipment specially for their customers who needed to work at height.
At the beginning of the new millennium, the company changed its name to Clements Plant & Tool Hire Ltd, in a move that better reflected the full scope of the portfolio of products and services available to its customers.
The company went fully independent from the Deeley Group when Jim Longstaff approached the organisation with an offer to acquire Clements. His vision was to provide a customer-focussed hire service. Clements Plant & Access Hire was born with John Jennings taking on the role of Chairman with Jim the managing director. John retired in 2015, and Jim assumed the role, with Adrian Hutchinson joining the company as MD.
In April 2023, Clements Plant & Access Hire was acquired by FGS Plant and the company became part of Heathcote Holdings. Joining FGS Plant has opened the opportunity for continued support and investment from the parent company to grow and expand in the years to come.
Having successfully completed 60 years in the industry, the company is well set for the future with the intention of continuing to provide the exceptional service it has delivered to date and becoming the leading plant hire company in the Midlands region.
