ALS Safety adds new simulator

Filed under: Latest News — EHN Team @ 8:24 am

ALS Safety Ltd, the training division of access equipment hirer Riwal UK, has taken delivery of a new virtual reality (VR) aerial platform training simulator, claimed to be one of just six of its kind in Europe.

The simulator combines scissor lift and aerial boom lift modules to provide comprehensive skills training in a fully-controlled environment.

The company is now offering the VR services to clients across the UK, alongside conventional IPAF, PASMA, CSCS and other courses. In operation, the user gets into a normal platform ‘cage’ wearing VR goggles and headphones.

Platform controls are identical to real ones and the simulator creates authentic sensations of movement, direction and height, including realistic bumps and a feeling of swaying in the wind. It offers 18 scissor lift training modules, and 16 boom lift modules with scenarios that include flat and rough terrain.

ALS Safety MD Darren Verschuren said, “There is evidence that VR enhances engagement in training, which must be a good thing. It is particularly appealing to younger people, the Millennials, who have grown up with computer gaming technology.”
