Astley Hire helps the homeless

Filed under: Latest News — EHN Team @ 11:59 am

Leigh-based Astley Hire is helping a local charity lift spirits this Christmas by packing more than 100 shoeboxes with gifts for homeless people in Manchester.

The company, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, initially set itself the challenge of filling 50 boxes, but went on to make 100, filled with small gifts, toiletries and clothing. These have been delivered to the Adactus Housing Group, a collection hub for the Manchester Homeless Shoebox Appeal.

The hirer turned one of its training rooms into a production line over the course of ten days and invited staff to bring in gifts or goods from home. Staff also took turns in their tea breaks to pack and wrap, while others went into town to buy more items with funds that employees and customers had donated to the appeal.

The boxes are now being distributed to local shelters and homeless people living on the streets of the city in the run up to Christmas.
