Evesham-based Cotswold Roller Hire (CRH Plant) has taken delivery of a new 26 tonne Mercedes-Benz Axor 6×2 rigid truck, mounted with an Andover Trailers plant body with single crank beaver tail. The vehicle will be based at the hirer’s recently opened depot in Ludgershall, on the border between Hampshire and Wiltshire, and will be used to transport equipment between the company’s eight depots throughout England and Wales.
MD Neville Thomas said, “We will be keeping this truck on the fleet until it’s about ten years old. Even then, it will be the chassis which has worn out and not the bodywork. We have been buying Andover Trailers kit for years and it is truly built to last.”
The body has fuel-saving hydraulic, fold-forward ramps. Measuring 2.5m long by 1m wide, they fold flat against the deck to minimise aerodynamic drag whilst the vehicle is in motion. Mercedes-Benz says the body offers a deck height up to 12cm lower than a regular plant body, giving low ramp and beaver tail approach angles.
