Climate Hire’s new Phoen

The latest addition to Climate Hire & Sales’ heater range is the Phoen 100. Manufactured by the company’s established heating equipment supplier, Biemmedue, and designed around the popular EC series, it is an indirect LPG fired unit offering 96kW output and comes as standard with a dual voltage capability.
Fitted with a heavy-duty transport kit, the machine can be wheeled or forklifted into position. Up to 50m of ducting can be run directly from the nose cone of the heater, or two 20m lengths can be taken via an optional two-way adaptor. The company believes the Phoen 100 is ideal for applications in the construction and temporary structure industries.
Equipped with several safety features, the machine includes an overheat thermostat on the combustion chamber, and a limit thermostat located at the air outlet, designed to operate if the air passing through the chamber should exceed 100ºC. Director Dave Matthews says “There is definitely a place in the market for an indirect LPG heater like this, particularly when you take into account the unit’s output.”

Tower Light launches Litestar software

Tower Light, the manufacturer of the popular VT1 lighting tower, has developed PC software for calculating safe lighting levels required for indoor and outside locations. This follows research carried out by the Italy-based company among managers of construction sites and event venues, which found that, in many cases, people simply followed past practice, used unreliable light meters, or simply guessed the amount of light needed.
The manufacturer worked with a software developer, OxyTech, and devised the Litestar program. A client simply provides the site dimensions, with details of the sort of activity or work taking place, and the software suggests the type, model and optimum positioning of the appropriate Tower Light products. It can calculate lighting levels for large areas such as concert venues, car parks, highways and tunnels, and the program can be automatically updated via the Internet.

HSC’s green lights

To illuminate the darker days ahead, The Hire Supply Company (HSC) is offering a range of energy saving lighting products developed over the last three years, which can also provide environmental benefits. It says that by replacing a standard 100m festoon string, having twenty GLS 60W bulbs, with a similar number of 13W compact fluorescent lamps, the user will reduce their carbon footprint by an equivalent of approximately 23kg of CO2 over five days, with the lights working eight hours a day. With many such lights often being used on construction sites, the company says the potential savings and green benefits are huge.
In its range of energy saving lighting, HSC has developed 27 and 35W high efficiency units as an alternative to tungsten halogen lamps. Sales Director Dan Musson says that “the sales of our double head 27W tripod light, with two power take-off sockets, has increased year on year, even taking into account the current economic climate. Our customers are now being asked for energy saving alternatives, and we have the stocks and variety of equipment to suit most applications. Included in the range are 13W 110V festoon lamps, 27 and 35W fluorescent lights, and 38W task lights in 110 and 240V.” HSC is also offering its Elite range of electric heaters, along with propane and commercial electric and gas heaters, for the coming season.

BGG adds new Sitelight

BGG UK (Bruno Generators Group) has just launched the Sitelight 908F, a freestanding lighting tower that joins the existing Sitelight 908 wheeled version. The machine is particularly suitable for long-term positioning at sites where security could be an issue, such as roadsides, and it has central lift and forklift points to facilitate loading and positioning.
An 8.8kVA alternator is incorporated to provide good levels of power from the integral sockets, even when the four 1000W metal halide lamps are in operation. The lights can be run via the generator, from the mains or by a larger generator in a linked system.

Comprehensive Thermobile line-up

Thermobile UK’s heater line-up includes two versions of indirect oil fired machines, namely the ITA and IMA series. The former have built-in fuel tanks giving up to 15 hours’ continuous operation. Three models are available with heat capacities of 25, 45 and 70kW. IMA models operate from a separate fuel tank and are available in seven versions from 65-185kW. All are fitted with radial fans providing up to 15,000m3 airflow and have high-efficiency heat exchangers.
Complementing the mobile models are two containerised units. The IMAC 2000S and IMAC 4000E offer outputs of 185 and 383kW gross heat and heated airflows of 12,000 and 24,000m3 per hour.
Thermobile also supplies three ranges of fan assisted electric heaters from 3-18kW, as well as direct-fired oil and propane units, plus portable and mobile electric heaters.

Eden Project chooses TCP

The Eden Project in Cornwall aims to use equipment delivering the highest levels of sustainability and having the lowest carbon footprint. It has found one such machine to be the Ecolite lighting tower from TCP, which it has been testing and using for the past 12 months.
Site Manager Mike Olivant says “The Ecolite shows that reduced carbon emissions are achievable without any compromise on performance, and much effort has clearly been put into its design.” The machine is easy to manoeuvre, fully bunded and its low fuel consumption of 0.5 litres/hour gives up to 175 hours’ operation. TCP’s MD Andrew Barker says, “The Ecolite can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared with some other units.”

Cool Services’ hot opportunities

Cool Services reports an excellent response following the launch of its cooling and heating equipment crosshire initiative. “The poor summer had a silver lining, in that a specialist event hirer contacted us, having visited our stand at the Executive Hire Show,” said Director, Kevin Scott. “They hired 14 130kW indirect fired heaters for more than 20 weeks, complete with overhead ducting and 1250-litre fuel tanks to heat temporary structures at film locations throughout the UK.
“Also, many hire companies over the summer have sent us broken dehumidifiers from their fleets for repair, and we have dealt with approximately 200 machines so far. This will enable them to meet demand if flooding should occur this winter.”

Heat is on for Arc-Gen Hilta

ArcGen Hilta has introduced the Maxi-Heat mobile heater, targeted at applications ranging from construction and specialist painting tasks,
to pipeline work and mining, as well as for operation alongside dehumidifiers in flood restoration work.
The machine has a static working pressure of 1.5wg and air can be ducted up to 33m. A standard 1,800rpm liquid-cooled Isuzu diesel engine, with a regulated generator, is incorporated, and the twin heater units, which produce a maximum of 1,010,000 BTU, can be operated independently. A 191-gallon fuel tank gives more than 24 hours’ operation without refuelling.
Chief Executive, Mark Hodgkins says, “The Maxi-Heat has an in-line fuel heater and pre-filter to the fuel system. This makes the system more tolerant to dirt and variances in the viscosity of the fuel, which means improved performance and dependability.”
The Maxi-Heat is manufactured by USA-based Allmand Brothers, and ArcGen Hilta is also sole distributor of its compact Vertitower portable lighting tower. It features 360° rotating lamp head with a telescopic mast for quick and easy operation, and has a built-in drum for convenient storage of the power cable.
The machine also has a compact trailer and features a seven-section lighting mast which reaches a maximum height of 9m. 110V CTE auxiliary power is available through two 16A sockets, protected by overload trips and an earth leakage breaker, and the product has a sound level rating of 66dBA at 7m.
