New Wacker Neuson tracked dumper
Wacker Neuson has introduced its most compact tracked dumper, the 900kg capacity TD9. It is only 800mm wide, making it suitable for landscaping and horticultural applications and tasks on cramped construction sites. Power comes from a 10hp Yanmar diesel engine and the machine has a fuel tank with almost double the volume of its predecessor. It has two travel speeds and can negotiate 58% slopes.
The engine hood provides service access through two lockable side flaps. The left-hand flap provides access to the air and oil filters, fuel injection lever, diesel pump, fuel filter and water separator with drain hose, while the one on the right gives access to the silencer and exhaust pipe. An hour meter is incorporated on the control panel, which has a lockable cover hatch that conceals the filler caps for the hydraulic oil and the fuel tanks.

Log on to Midland Power
With recent price rises in conventional heating fuels, people are turning their attention to alternative heating methods and Midland Power Machinery suggests that products such as its log splitters represent a profitable hire opportunity. Targeted at domestic users, the A5VOR-350 is a 5 ton ram, 240V electric model, while for those needing to split bigger timber the A12V-K is a road towable, 12 ton ram machine with a Robin petrol engine and which can be used both horizontally and vertically.
Other popular models include the A9VOR, a 9-ton ram, 240V electric model which can be used in the horizontal or vertical positions, and the 8-ton ram A8VL, a vertical unit with a Honda petrol engine. Midland Power, which will promote models from the range at Saltex, has introduced a log splitter promotion to enable hirers to prepare for the busy autumn period.

Bomag’s powerful plates
Bomag offers a range of single direction plates comprising eight models from 49-150kg operating weight, and its reversible plates line-up includes 12 models from 105 to 712kg. The smallest machine is the 49kg BP6/30 single direction plate, which is 300mm wide and powered by a Honda petrol engine. It is suitable for light construction work such as compacting stone, earth and block paving.
For medium sized jobs like constructing footpaths and car parks, the 45/55 D diesel powered reversible plate can compact up to 130m2 of 80mm deep stone/ hour. It also features Bomag’s Economiser system, which gives a readout of the compaction achieved by the machine in real time. This ensures optimum compaction for the task, reduces unnecessary operation and lowers fuel consumption.

Versatility from Avant Tecno
Avant Tecno (UK)’s 700 Series loaders can be used for many materials handling applications. The 745 and 750 models both have 49hp Kubota diesel engines and can handle loads of up to 1.4 tonne. The 750 has two-speed hydrostatic transmission giving a maximum speed of 16mph, compared with the 745's 9mph.
The machines, which will be displayed on the company’s stand at Saltex next month, weigh 1700 and 1720kg respectively, but the 745 has slightly smaller overall dimensions. With the controls positioned on the front portion of the articulated chassis and an offset boom position, the driver has an unrestricted view of front-mounted attachments. The auxiliary hydraulic system offers an oil flow rate of up to 70 litres/minute.
One satisfied 750 customer is Ayrefield Plant of Chorley, which has supplied the machine for work on a confined city centre site in Bury for tasks such as loading dumpers with sand and handling pallets of flagstones and kerbs.

TowerLight Gladiators ready for action
TowerLight’s line-up of Gladiator compact dumpers includes five models suitable for landscape, light agricultural and building contracts. All are made from strong steel sheet and are designed to be light in weight. The small Dumper-Truck model has a load capacity of 250kg, is powered by a 5.5hp Honda petrol engine and has four pneumatic wheels. The tracked Dumper 550 has a 500kg capacity and incorporates a hydraulic system for tilting the bucket.
For larger projects, the tracked Dumper 850 can carry 850kg and features hydraulic operation. It is powered by an 8hp Honda engine. In addition to the standard machine, TowerLight offers the Dumper 850PRO, which features a hydraulically operated, automatic self-loading system. Completing the range is the Dumper 850TOP, which benefits from a hydraulic top-loader for tasks such as transferring material into skips and lorries.

Makita pumps up the power
Makita has added two new models to its range of submersible pumps, products that are often used in constructing and maintaining ponds and water features. The PF4000 and PF4001 are both powered by 400watt motors and can be used at a depth of 5m. The semi-trash PF4000 model has a lift head of 6m and will deliver 9,600 litres/hour pumping capacity, whilst the PF4001 can lift to 7m and pumps 10,800 litres/hour. Weighing 5.3kg, both have triple size outlet hose connection unions (35, 30 and 25mm) with non-return valves, and are protected by a low water level float switch.
Also new is the 5.9kg EBH253L brushcutter, which has a 24.5cc 4-stroke engine with electronic ignition and a fuel management facility to reduce emissions. With a cutting diameter of 420mm and loop handle controls, it is designed for large municipal operations. Another recent launch is the UH4860/2 hedge trimmer, which has a 48cm long double-sided blade, allowing it to cut in both directions. It can be used on branches up to 15mm in diameter.

Powerful Demon Tornado
Demon International’s Tornado plant watering bowser has a 150-litre tank and enables operation in locations without convenient access to a mains water supply. Power comes from a Honda WX10 centrifugal pump with a gate valve to control the output. A hose and spray gun are supplied as standard.
Designed for one-person operation, the machine can be transported to site in a van, eliminating the need to tow a larger water bowser just to carry out small jobs. Pneumatic tyres are fitted to facilitate movement over uneven ground, and the machine will be displayed on Demon’s Saltex stand.

Access Platform Sales on track
Access Platform Sales, a distributor for the Hinowa line-up of tracked access platforms, offers a range of compact models suitable for work in areas where low ground pressure equipment is required.
These machines are designed for operation over rough terrain and the narrowest model has a travel width of only 0.75m. Maximum working heights range from 8-29.7m.

Henton & Chattell shows Flymo
Henton & Chattel distributes the Flymo XL500 Plus petrol hover mower, targeted at top-end domestic and professional users. It has a Honda engine and can be operated on inclines of up to 45°. A metal blade is supplied as standard and a wheel kit is available as an accessory.
The company’s Saltex line-up will also include Idea rotary mowers made by Ibea. Models are available with 42 and 47cm cutting widths and in both push and self-propelled versions. The machines have four-stroke engines manufactured by Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power, which will have its own stand at the Show.

JCB targets landscapers
JCB’s 8020 mini excavator is its largest model that can legally be towed behind the pick-ups or 4 x 4 vehicles typically used by many landscape contractors. With an operating weight of 2000kg, the machine has ergonomic controls designed for smooth and straightforward operation.
The HTD5 high-tip tracked dumper has a 500kg payload capacity and a maximum tip height of 1450mm. It is narrow enough to be driven through a standard doorway and JCB says that the machine’s longer than average undercarriage enhances stability.
The 403 compact loading shovel weighs 1990kg and lends itself to use in landscaping and agricultural applications, especially in situations where low building heights restrict machine choice.

Cautrac’s steady climb
Cautrac reports that its compact TrackBarrow is proving a popular machine with hirers, who often supply it in tandem with a mini excavator. Sales Manager Mark Dutton claims that the machine is competitively priced, enabling a quick return on investment to be achieved, and adds that users are invariably impressed by its climbing ability, even when fully laden.
Also available is the larger Yamaguchi WB06 high-lift tracked machine, a diesel powered unit that is built from heavier gauge steel to withstand the rigours of construction site usage. It can carry loads of up to 700kg. In addition, Cautrac stocks a wide range of tracks for many makes of machines, as well as buckets and other accessories.

No spills with Easi-Fill
Hirers could find that the Easy-Fill safety spout is a handy item to offer for sale to customers hiring mowers and other engine powered equipment. The spout automatically shuts off the flow when a machine’s fuel tank is full to avoid spillages. As well as petrol and diesel, the product can be used with water and cleaning chemicals, and its reversible screw collar is designed to fit virtually all recently manufactured plastic fuel containers and metal cans. The Easi-Fill company, which will be exhibiting at Saltex, will shortly introduce a fuel can with the spout incorporated into it.

Hayter’s GrandStand display
Amongst the highlights on Hayter’s stand at Saltex will be the new Toro GrandStand mower, which the operator stands on. It is described as a cross between mid-size walk-behind mowers and ride-on zero-turn machines. It has a 122cm side-discharge deck and is fitted with a 19hp Kawasaki engine. A recycling mulching kit is available as an option.
The compact machine is designed to give better manoeuvrability around obstacles and the operator’s standing position enhances visibility.
The platform incorporates a suspension system to reduce operator fatigue and it is self-compensating to suit individual operators. All controls are designed to be within easy reach and the platform flips up so that the GrandStand can be used as walk-behind machine if required. Hayter says it will also launch a new mower for the local authority market at the Show.

GreenMech to launch new chippers
GreenMech’s Saltex line-up will include the new Quad-Chip, which can process 150mm-diameter material and is mounted on a 360° turntable. Weighing less than 750kg, it can be towed by a vehicle of up to 3.5 tonne.
New also is the CS100, which has been derived from the manufacturer’s GM 100 machine. It is designed to be compact enough to be loaded easily on to trailers or into vans, and it can be used with material of up to 100mm in diameter. GreenMech believes the machine is particularly suitable for the hire industry, for use by homeowners who are undertaking more demanding garden maintenance tasks themselves. At Saltex, the company will also promote the Boxer range of diesel powered compact utility loaders, which can be used with more than 50 attachments.

New Gianni Ferrari ride-ons
At Saltex, Gianni Ferrari will show its new GTM ride-on mowers, which feature grass collection and have an overall width of just 85cm. The machines can be specified with a choice of Briggs & Stratton engines, namely the single-cylinder 15.5hp I/C or a 16hp Vanguard V-twin.
A 19-litre fuel tank is fitted and the mowing deck has a heavy-duty electromagnetic clutch. Cutting width is 80cm and the grass collector has a capacity of 280 litres. A side discharge kit can also be attached.

Latest Camon additions
Tracmaster will use Saltex as the launching pad for the latest additions to its Camon range of grounds care equipment, including a hydraulic rotavator that can also be used as a stone burier, increasing its versatility. Also new is a spring rake attachment that fits on to the Camon LS14 and LS17 lawn scarifiers, for the removal of surface thatch with minimal disruption to the turf.
This month, Tracmaster is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it has launched a competition to win one of its most popular prodcucts, the C8 rotavator, worth more than £2,000. Entries can be made via the company’s web site.

Watering with Western
Western Environmental offers several specialist plant watering products, including the new battery powered Kaddi, which is suitable for tasks indoors and in areas with restricted access. Made from durable polyethylene and styled as a wheelie bin for manoeuvrability, it can be moved into position and used for watering plants or cleaning windows. It has a 100-litre water tank.
The wheeled Poly Trolley can be used as a pressure washer or for plant watering. It can be manoeuvred over rough terrain and can fit through standard doorways. The tank has a capacity of 105 litres, and the pump is driven by a petrol engine.
Western also manufactures the Poly Plant water bowser, which can be mounted on a road-tow chassis and fitted with an optional access platform and extendable lance for watering at higher levels.

Ransomes Jacobsen’s big Spider
Making its Saltex debut will be Ransomes Jacobsen’s Spider II, a larger version of the radio controlled mower designed for cutting embankments and areas with difficult pedestrian access. It can tackle slopes of up to 55° and has an integral winch synchronised to the machine’s ground speed.
Power comes from a Kawasaki petrol engine which drives the four cutting blades. With a 1.23m mowing width, the machine offers a significant increase in productivity over its 80cm wide counterpart, and Ransomes Jacobsen says the quality of cut is also enhanced. Other new Saltex launches will include the Jacobsen R-311 wide area mower and a lightweight machine aimed at the municipal market which is being kept under wraps until the Show opens.
