Wacker Neuson at top speed
Wacker Neuson has launched a new range of floor saws that are claimed to offer the fastest cutting speeds in their class. They are designed to ensure that maximum engine power is transmitted to the cutting edge, resulting in 20% per cent higher cutting speeds than comparable machines. With the centre of gravity directly over the cutting shaft, the blade is pressed firmly into the concrete or asphalt for optimum performance.
The new Z -line model also has a re-designed chassis and handle for enhanced manoeuvrability. The machine’s wheels are
mounted on ball bearings and are set within the frame, making work easier closer to kerbs. With the centre of gravity being over the axle, the saw can be tilted and repositioned easily. A larger than average water tank increases the interval between refills, giving greater productivity.

HSC introduces its new Buddie
The Hire Supply Company (HSC) offers a dedicated range of products for capturing dust at source, based around the Dustless Technologies Wet & Dry Vacuum. Brand new to the line-up is the Cut Buddie, a 10cm diameter drill and core bit dust extraction shroud, manufactured from a clear flexible plastic. The user simply cuts it to suit the size of drill or core bit they are using, and then connects it to the vacuum. It will simply stick to the work surface, removing any dust created.

Stihl’s new diamond trio
Stihl, whose cut-off saw range includes the TS 410, will be adding three new diamond cutting wheels to its range this summer. Whilst full details are being kept under wraps, the company says the newcomers will include a universal wheel that can be used on both hard and soft materials, enabling operators to cut both concrete and asphalt, for example, without needing to use different wheels.
Another new universal wheel being launched is designed to give extremely fast cutting of hard stone and concrete, as well as iron and stainless steel. This also makes it appropriate for use on building blocks or granite, as well as items like scaffolding tubes. An entry-level diamond wheel will complete the new line-up.

Milwaukee goes digital
New from Milwaukee is the MS305 DB double bevel mitre saw, which offers the ability to set a mitre angle to within 0.1°, using a dial with a digital readout. An integral light illuminates the cut line from either side of the blade.
With a power input of 1800watts and weighing 29.5kg, the tool has rubber carry handles for comfort. Electronic soft start is incorporated for a smooth and precise cut, and an integral dust channel is designed to capture 75% of all dust and debris by collecting it near the cut either side of the blade and directing it to the back of the saw.

Cost-cutters from Marcrist
Given the current economic climate and the need for users to reduce costs and increase operating efficiency, Marcrist believes its CR850 abrasive disc should be particularly popular. Designed to combine the strength and durability of a diamond blade with the cutting performance of an abrasive, it can be used for the fast cutting of materials as diverse as aluminium, steel, wood, reinforced glass, concrete and plastic.
Marcrist says the CR850’s versatility means it eliminates the need for time-consuming blade changes, and the associated costs of having to use different products, so that operators can achieve maximum on-site efficiency. The blade can be used for both wet and dry cutting.

Tackle tiles with Diamond Masters
Diamond Masters reports its has joined forces with a major European manufacturer to introduce innovative wall and floor tile cutting products in both hand-operated and electric formats. They are designed to cut virtually any materials, including granite worktops and marble.
The FB750W drilling system uses high-speed, thin-wall diamond drill bits designed to deliver a precise, clean and accurate cut,
and they are claimed to have a working life of up to 300 holes.
The company also offers the Hauchek petrol driven diamond drilling rig. Used primarily in the verification of reinstatement work on tarmac construction projects, it provides independent drilling capability without the need for towing generators or being near power outlets. In addition, Diamond Masters supplies the A300 and A700 portable air cleaning units made by Pullman Ermator of Sweden.

DeWalt saw offers precision
DeWalt reports strong sales of its DW717XPS 250mm dual bevel sliding mitre saw. It features a crosscut positioning system (XPS) that uses LED technology to not only illuminate the work area, but also to cast a shadow of the blade showing exactly where the cut will be, with no need for calibration.
The machine has a patented precision mitre system, which allows users to make repeatable and accurate cuts. A machined base fence support system increases rigidity and ensures the fence remains perpendicular to the blade. Additionally, the stainless steel mitre detent plate has ten positive settings for quick and easy adjustment. Users can cut a 320mm x 76mm piece of material at 0° and 226mm x 76mm materials at 45°. Maximum depth of cut is 155mm, allowing skirting to be cut vertically against the back fence.

Latest JCB Edge innovation
Edge Diamond, the official manufacturer of JCB diamond products under licence, was recently asked by a contractor working for a water company to develop diamond blades for cutting 600mm diameter steel pipe. This task is typically undertaken with a petrol powered disc cutter and a 300mm diameter bonded abrasive wheel. However, this can require the operator to work in an inverted position, with the disc cutter being operated upside down, to cut the bottom of the pipe, which is both awkward and time-consuming.
Edge JCB says it has now developed a diamond blade, called the JCB-Vacbra, that can cut such pipes in a matter of minutes without any appreciable segment wear. It also recommends the use of a hydraulic disc cutter and power pack to undertake the task, since such equipment can be used where there is standing water, and in an inverted position.

Makita launches Cosmos 3D-grid blades
As part of Makita’s extensive range of new products to be introduced this summer, the manufacturer has restructured its laser-welded Cosmos diamond blade range. New technology has allowed Makita to reduce the number of blade options to 90 from the previous 260.
According to Accessories Manager Graham Aird, “the key component of the new range is the 3D-diamond grid technology where each individual diamond particle is placed accurately in a three dimensional grid pattern on each segment of the blade rather than the traditional random bonding of diamond grits.
By specifically placing the diamonds accurately, both the wear and cutting performance are far more accurately predicted. “These blades offer 30% more cutting capacity and 50% faster cutting ability. The high quality control of the 3D diamond grid, improved distribution and bonding of the diamond particles enables a broader spectrum of materials to be covered by a blade specification.
These new Cosmos blades also incorporate what Makita describes as ‘Stealth’ technology. This technique uses a blade blank manufactured with a sandwich of materials that dampen both noise levels and vibrations. The range features three quality bands, with Quasar as the premium product. “This has the best life and speed across the widest range of materials, featuring 12mm ‘M’ shaped segment and ‘Stealth’ technology.” The mid range Comet series also features ‘Stealth’ technology, with quick start 10mm segments. The third range is the economy Neutron series, which still features 10mm segment height, laser welded to a standard blade blank. Comet and Neutron are also available in two variants: ‘Enduro’ for extended blade life or ‘Rapide’ for enhanced speed of cut.
