Executive Report : Innovation on show
Attendance figures may have been down, but last month's SED still provided a launch pad for new equipment that hirers can offer to their customers.
Welding innovation from ArcGen Hilta
Making its debut on the ArcGen Hilta stand was the Weldmaker 200 2LS welder generator, designed for operational flexibility, environmental friendliness and fuel economy. The machine can be set so that it only starts if power is actually required, typically when the user commences welding.
In this way, unnecessary running is virtually eliminated. A timer can be altered to shut down the unit when it has been idle for a certain period.
The constant current, constant voltage machine enables one user to weld with up to 300A of power, or for two operators using 180A each.
As we reported last month, ArcGen Hilta has been appointed sole UK and Eire distributor for Addco mobile message boards, which were displayed at the Show. Several units have already been supplied to A-Plant Lux. Also on the stand were the 1130-litre capacity Bowser, a Hilta Drysite D5 diaphragm pump designed for 24-hour running, and examples from the BBA pumps range, which ArcGen Hilta is also distributing.
“We took more than 100 good enquiries at the Show, with interest across the product range,” said Chief Executive, Mark Hodgkins. “We are also repeating the pledge we first made at the Executive Hire Show to buy one tree for every sale generated, to be planted in the National Forest. It is part of our campaign to offset some of the carbon footprint used in the manufacture and subsequent use of our on-site equipment.”

Secure with Indespension
Indespension displayed a new system for securing 1.5 tonne mini excavators on a trailer for safe transportation. Guidance plates on the side of the trailer facilitate loading, and then clamps lock on to the machine tracks, doing away with the need for securing straps. An adjustable front stop bar ensures the load is safely positioned, and chain ratchet systems prevent the boom swinging in transit.
Also on show was the manufacturer’s Low Loader trailer with an integral breaker storage box. The 2700kg gross weight model has a 2080kg carrying capacity and is designed for use with most 1.5 tonne machines. The ramp tail provides a shallow loading angle and it has integral guide rails. The breaker box is mounted lengthways to facilitate loading and unloading.

GenQuip butts in
The new Hogbutt from GenQuip is a rainwater collection and filtering device, designed to feed toilets and shower rooms in various cabins located on a site for long periods.
The system is connected to the mains water supply to service a small tank that feeds sinks and similar facilities. Rainwater can be captured from the roof of the Hogbutt or from cabin guttering, and is stored in a larger tank to service toilets. In the event of drought conditions, a foot switch diverts fresh water into the rainwater tank. Integral meters show how much collected water has been used. GenQuip says that it is developing a range of Hogbutts with different capacities.

Briggs & Stratton powers Butters machines
Engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton has played an important role in the development of a range of high frequency DC welder/generators being distributed by Butters AMT Welding of Droitwich, in terms of research and development support. Its Vanguard power units are incorporated in the machines for performance, low noise and economy.
The products have a modular design for ease of servicing and reduced costs of ownership over their working life, and this also gives convenient upgrading capability for stick, Mig and Tig welding. The units are designed to provide flexible welding power at 100% constant duty cycle in parallel with conventional technology for auxiliary power applications, and the incorporation of multiple generators allows options for two or more operators to work from the same source. Because smaller cables can be used, welds can be made at up to 60m from the power source, says the company.
