JSP launches neck support

PPE specialist JSP has launched Necprotech, a neck support designed to combat strain and injury associated with looking up for long periods. The product, which was a winner in the Dragon’s Den television series, can be used by tradesmen such as painters, plasterers, joiners, electricians, boat builders, car assembly workers and telephone engineers. The support is made of ABS plastic and is connected to a harness. Straps at chest level are used to pull the support into the wearer’s neck, and they can then be manually adjusted through a ratchet system. Replaceable padding gives additional comfort.

HTC’s profitable Twister

HTC believes there is a substantial potential market for hirers to sell its Twister and heavier-duty Twister Hybrid floor cleaning pads for restoring marble, terrazzo, concrete and natural stone finishes. The pads, which incorporate microscopic diamonds, are available to fit many different floor cleaning machines, and the user simply needs to apply water prior to treatment, meaning that no chemicals are needed.

Portwest workwear for style

Established in 1904, Portwest designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of workwear, high-visibility garments and safety footwear. Considerable stocks are held in a purpose built warehouse in South Yorkshire for same-day despatch. The Buildtex Plus range comprises high-quality workwear for tradesmen, designed to combine style with practicality. The fabric has been developed to give toughness and durability, with specially woven cotton (37%) on the inside for comfort and high tensile polyester (63%) outside for durability. A water and dirt repellent finish is incorporated.
Four trouser styles are offered in a choice of colours and leg lengths, and all have a patented flexi-fit waistband system. Pockets are positioned so tools can be quickly accessed when needed and safely stored when not in use. A jacket and a breathable fleece complete the collection. Phoenix Hire & Sales of Cwmbran are amongst hirers offering Portwest products.

Latest fischer fixing

The SXR 10 nylon anchor is the latest long-shaft fixing from fischer designed for securing items into most load bearing building materials. It has a minimum anchoring depth of just 50mm and can be used in tasks such as fixing facades, window frames, fire doors, and ceiling linings. fischer says the anchor is designed for easy insertion and that its shape prevents distortion when set in perforated bricks or installations with an offset between the fixing and the drill hole. Versions are available offering total fixing lengths of 60-260mm.

Heavy-duty Diamondmasters cutter

Diamondmasters’ Diamond3 FB750W professional tile cutter is a 750watt machine designed to cope with very hard materials, such as glazed porcelain, granite, marble and sanitary ware, and it can cut holes from 6-125mm in diameter. The tool comes with a carrying case, a cutting guide for first-time users and a water tank. MD David McDonough says the bits have a life of more than 300 holes and that hirers can earn revenue by selling them, or by charging per 0.5mm of diamond used. A 28mm-diameter hole can be cut in 25mm-thick granite in 40 seconds.

Standall low-vibration steels

Standall’s SVR breaker steels are designed to reduce levels of HAV and noise. The company investigated the harmonics generated within such attachments and how they are transmitted to the operator. The SVR (Standall Vibration Reduced) range utilises harmonically dampened steel that can reduce harmful vibration by up to 30% compared against a standard product.

Fast Makita Nemesis drill bit

Makita claims that its Nemesis four-cutter drill bit can cut 50% more holes accurately in reinforced concrete than normal hammer drill bits, because its configuration means it keeps rotating rather than jamming when its hits rebar. A patented machining process is used to make the drill body, and a one-piece solid carbide tip is incorporated for durability and accurate centring for spot drilling. Its fluted spiral shape is designed to transmit more energy from the machine to the drilling face, with less vibration.

Duro’s sales generators

Duro (formerly DTAS) continues to expand its range of diamond and carbide products for cutting and grinding. New for 2009 are concave blades, blades for specialist materials, SDS Plus and SDS Max drill bits and chisels, while the original carbide multi-purpose Rippa blade is now in its second generation. A range of conventional abrasives has also been introduced.
The company reports that it is developing innovative ways to help hirers to generate sales in a retail environment. It has introduced product information cards that sit behind SDS Plus chisel variants when hung on display hooks, giving clear details of their applications and capabilities. The same system will be developed throughout the product range, including diamond blades and cutters. Other support services offered include point of sale materials, videos, e-commerce support and a variety of tailored literature.

A range of sealants for treating concrete after grinding is also available.
Pressure water tanks are offered for wet cutting where a mains supply is not available, including manually pumped models and the WB10B battery version, which was launched at the Executive Hire Show. Husqvarna provides a large range of PPE, from trousers and jackets to gloves and goggles, and also offers lubricants that hirers can sell, such as ‘one shot’ two-stroke oil and hydraulic oil for mini excavators.

Get tooled up with Silverline

Silverline Tools provides a range of more than 4,000 products ex-stock to enable hirers to react quickly to retail opportunities. It offers lifetime guarantees on its hand tools, and three-year warranties on its extensive power tools line-up. Stockists are also supported with a variety of merchandising material.
The company says that order quantities are kept to a minimum so that when a customer wants an item such as one SDS+ gouging chisel, a hirer does not have to buy a pack containing five. Next day delivery is available throughout mainland UK for orders placed by 3pm. Silverline says that items are priced so that retailers retain profitable margins and customers enjoy good value.

Nail opportunities with Paslode

Consumables for most power tools are only required when they are worn or a job demands a new size of drill bit or a different type of cutting blade. ITW Construction Products says that its gas nailers offer hirers a valuable opportunity to generate additional income with each hire,
by selling the nails, staples and brads that are required for timber fixing and other tasks. ITW says that a Paslode IM350 nailer could pay for itself in this way in just one hire period, consuming thousands of nails and making it possible to almost double the revenue generated.

HSC reports increased orders

The Hire Supply Company reports that, since adding Dustless Technologies products to its range, it has experienced a huge increase in orders for the accompanying consumables. These include abrasive sheets for Turbo Dry Wall sanders, and micro pre-filter bags that hold water and capture up to 99% of vacuumed dust. Other tools in the line-up include the FlatBoy, which enables users to sand completely flat whilst using an angle grinder, and the PaintBuddie which captures paint chips as they are removed.
HSC also distributes extension leads that can be sold at the point of hire, and the 14m versions come individually bagged for easy display.
The company says it is investing a substantial amount of time and money into re-designing its packaging and literature, in order to help customers offer a wider range of consumables as additional revenue creators.

Powerful Tornado Twister

Tornado Construction Products recently introduced the Twister, a concrete bolt designed as a strong, removable fixing for all concrete types as well as stone, brickwork, marble, and most construction materials. A special thread design allows it to cut a deep groove more quickly, with greater load bearing capacity. It can also be used for cracked concrete applications.
Tornado says the Twister is expansion-free and can be used closer to the edges of the material than conventional expansion anchors, and an
all-weather coating gives protection against the elements. Designed for medium-heavy duty use and available in two head types, it can be used in a wide range of projects, such as installing aerials, alarm systems, extractor fans, fencing, and handrails. The company has also introduced a new battery operated nail gun, the TD90S.
