EHN reviews some of the innovations displayed at The Cleaning Show, held recently in Birmingham.
Evolution from Demon
Demon International showed the latest version of its Typhoon Evolution diesel powered, hot water pressure washer, which now incorporates a rotationally moulded plastic tank for light weight, resilience and an enhanced appearance. A flashing warning beacon is also incorporated.
Available in water and air-cooled versions, the machine is designed for low noise levels, making it suitable for use in public areas. Water tank capacity is 1000 litres and maximum pressure is 2900psi, with flow rates of up to 15 litres/minute.

Vax for deep cleaning
Prominent on Vax Commercial’s stand was the VCW-04 heated carpet cleaner, a rugged machine designed for intensive professional use. It has a 900watt motor and its 28.5cm cleaning width enables large areas to be treated quickly.
It can be used to vacuum up spillages, and its brushing action is designed to clean deeply into the carpet pile in order to treat the fibres thoroughly. More cleaning solution can be dispensed at the touch of a button for tackling stubborn stains and for high traffic areas.

Fewer slips with compact Karcher
Karcher’s new 30/4 C compact scrubber dryer is the same size as an upright vacuum cleaner, which facilitates access under furniture and low objects. It collects the applied water afterwards and leaves the surface virtually dry, helping
to eliminate slip hazards in public areas. The machine has a vacuum-off setting for deep scrubbing tasks, and clean and dirty water are kept separate at all times.

Hydro Nova’s easy sprayer
Hydro Nova Europe’s ICS 8920 is a battery powered, self-contained cleaning system that enables surfaces to be treated without the user having to come into contact with them.
The machine creates a water pressure of 1000psi at the spray gun, giving a gentle cleaning action, and the rechargeable 24V battery provides up to six hours’ continuous operation. An integral wet vacuum can be used to recover any surplus water. Fresh water tank capacity is 100 litres and a 40-litre wastewater recovery tank is incorporated.

Brendon shows latest bowser
Brendon Powerwashers highlighted its new Mini-Bowser, displayed with its optional rear hose reel kit in place. Suitable for remote cleaning applications away from a mains water supply, it has a 125 litre tank and can be specified with a petrol or diesel engine. A lockable jockey wheel at the front enhances manoeuvrability and the machine can also be used for sand blasting tasks and drain jetting applications.

Nilfisk’s Clean Sweep
Helping to man the Nilfisk Group stand was Darren Woodward, UK Account Manager with specialist hirer, Clean Sweep UK. The Manchester-based company offers a fleet of pedestrian and ride-on machines throughout the UK, ranging from carpet cleaners and industrial vacuums,
to road sweepers and scrubber dryers.
“The majority of our fleet comprises Nilfisk machines. Clients include food retailers, cafe’s, supermarkets, railways and local authorities, with typical hire periods ranging from one week upwards,” said Darren, who is pictured inside a Nilfisk RS 501 road sweeper. This model, which has recently been added to the fleet, is a compact vehicle with a tight turning circle and it incorporates a rear-mounted pressure washer.

Two-stage Truvox machine
The Hydromist Lite from Truvox International is a compact carpet and upholstery spray extractor. It has a two-stage action, initially spraying cleaning solution onto the target area before vacuuming up dirt and stains. Power comes from an 1100watt motor.
The tanks containing the cleaning solution and recovered water are designed to be easy to fill and empty, and the vacuum wand is made from stainless steel.
