Arc-Gen’s compact performer

Arc-Gen’s Vertitower is a mobile lighting unit featuring a 360? degree rotating lamp head with a telescopic mast for quick and easy operation, and a built-in drum for convenient storage of the power cable. The company says that, due to the product’s compact design, it is suitable for use where numerous lights are required, as multiple units can be loaded and transported together.

The Vertitower has four 1,000watt metal halide lamps fitted to oval reflectors that direct high-intensity light onto the working area below.
Each bulb is secured at both ends to reduce the likelihood of accidental damage during operation and transportation. The machine also offers 110V auxiliary power through two 16A sockets.

EHS adds the power of Zeus

The slimline Zeus utility heater from EHS (International) carries an IPX5 weatherproof rating enabling it to be used outdoors as well as inside. Powered by a standard 220-240V supply, it has carbon filter heating elements that are designed to give a deeper, more penetrating heat with greater efficiency than traditional tungsten filaments.

It has 1,400 and 2,800watt output settings and the elements last for up to 10,000 hours. For economy, the heater turns itself off after four minutes if it detects there is no-one in the area, and EHS says the unit can be used as a patio heater as well as in workshops and similar environments. The Zeus also incorporates a 40watt swivelling lighting head.

GenSet hits the road

GenSet has launched the VT-1+ tower floodlight, derived from the popular VT-1, offering better servicing access areas and a lower midpoint, making the complete unit neater and more compact. “The VT-1+ can be fitted with an undercarriage that is compliant with all major European road traffic regulations, including stringent rules laid down by the French authorities,” says the company’s Lighting Product Champion, Paul Hay. “We believe it is one of only a handful of mobile construction related products to achieve this status.”

Following customer feedback, a service has been introduced whereby a hire company’s details can be embossed into the product’s canopy to enhance security. The VT-1+ has a noise output of 65dBA at 7m and has a long-run fuel tank.

Broughton targets hire

Broughton says its three-phase electric heaters continue to make inroads into the hire market owing to Health & Safety concerns over the use of some machines using bottled gas, with attendant exhaust fumes. The FF18 is a portable 18kW unit that can heat up to six separate areas up to 10m away, with appropriate ducting. The FF42 is a tough, 42kW heater that can warm several areas up to 34m apart, over an area of 1000m2.
It incorporates forklift eyes, and both machines can be used on a fan-only setting for cooling.

The company also offers the RG306 heater. Instead of using conventional quartz elements, it uses six smaller versions to provide an even spread of heat down to ground level, which are claimed to be considerably cheaper to replace. The heater is available in 230 and 110V versions.

SMC ‘s small footprint

SMC’s Telelight TL-90 mobile lighting tower has a footprint of only 2.5 by 1.32m, facilitating transport and storage. Its electrically operated mast reaches its full operational height of 9m in 12 seconds, whilst the two telescopic stabilisers provide solid support in use. The mast rotates through 360? and individual lamp adjustment allows the four 1000watt metal halide lamps to be accurately positioned for maximum light control.

The machine has a quoted sound level of 60dBA and can run for up to 85 hours without re-fuelling. Other standard features include the use of biodegradable oil in the hydraulic system and 120% bunding of all engine fluids.

Also available are environmentally friendly Low Energy Festoon Lights, incorporating a 13watt compact fluorescent light with output equivalent to a standard 60watt bulb.

The E-Lite range includes single and double-headed retractable and swing leg models, floor standing and magnetic units. In addition, HSC’s Powerman line-up of professional site lighting includes single and double headed halogen units, fluorescent contractors’ lights and minipod floor standing lights. Extra efficiency from Thermobile

New from Thermobile are two new models in the IMA range of indirect fired mobile oil heaters. The IMA 150 units are available in 230 and 400V versions and provide a nett output of 470,000BTU), which equates to a claimed efficiency level of 92%. Heated airflow is 9,000m3/hour for the 230V model and 11,000m3/hr for its larger counterpart, with a maximum back pressure of 300pa and 500pa respectively. Wick-less design from Scott

The Zibro SRE 160 paraffin heater, available from Scott Brothers, features electronic ignition, with digital variable heat control and temperature settings. The wick-less design provides clean and economical heating without the need for wick maintenance or replacement, says the company, and the unit is recommended for heating areas in homes, offices and other premises of 20-50m2.

The heater has a programmable timer and integrated thermostatic control, while a tip-over switch shuts off the machine automatically if it is knocked over. An automatic cleaning mode ensures that, when the heater has been burning for two hours consecutively at its maximum setting, it will clean the burner chamber for five minutes.

Larger Arcotherm range

Arcotherm, which distributes Biemmedue heaters, has added new products to the range, including four indirect oil heaters and two direct models, with outputs from 133,000-675,000 BTU/hour.

The company has also launched a more competitive range of smaller, dual-voltage direct-fired heaters, which come complete with a strong plastic tank that is durable and resists corrosion.

Arcotherm, which is part of Vp, can supply for hire or sale a variety of spill kits for equipment containing oil. When delivering hire equipment to site,
its own drivers will carry information packs containing method statements, COSHH sheets, and spill procedure documentation.

Extended running from TCP

Brightlights, an Essex-based lighting tower hirer, was recently approached by a major road contractor to provide temporary lighting for road works close to a major road junction. The lights had to offer a long uninterrupted running time, particularly to cover an extended weekend period in excess of 80 hours.

Brightlights recommended the Ecolite from Taylor Construction Plant (TCP), which can run for more than seven days on one tank of fuel. This is achieved by using ceramic discharge lamps, designed to provide consistent illumination at a fraction of the running costs. The client was also impressed by the quality of light, with reduced glare and no flickering.

TCP says that an enhanced version, the Ecolite MkII, will be available at the end of this month. It offers a further reduction in fuel consumption and a new cross arm configuration for maximum flexibility in lamp alignment.

SDMO launches lighting towers

Launched this month by SDMO is a new range of mobile lighting towers, the first to be offered by the French manufacturer. They can also be used to provide auxiliary electrical power. The 6kVA RL6 offers a maximum mast height of 7m and has four 1,000watt tungsten halogen lamps. The 12kVA and 16kVA RL12 and RL16 models incorporate four 1,000watt metal halide lamps and have 8.5m masts. On the smallest unit, the mast is raised manually, while on the larger models operation is effected via a joystick control.

All three machines can be separated quickly from their trailers, enabling them to be hired out separately if required. The RL16 was displayed last month at the annual open day held at the Middlewich premises of the company’s UK subsidiary, SDMO Energy.

Claimed advantages over traditional lamps include reduced energy usage, greater light output and durability. The lights also remain cool in operation and are recyclable.

Additions to Birchwood’s Defender Evolution range include the LED Festoon, available in 20, 50 and 100m strings with 10, 25 and 33 lamp fitting respectively. Each fitting incorporates 21 LEDs. The LED Tri Lite has a multi-position head and an extendable mast, while the LED Hand Lamp incorporates 26 LEDs for wide illumination and it comes with a hanging hook.
