Cumbrian hirer takes Takeuchi mini

Takeuchi reports that one of the first customers for its new TB235 mini excavator, which was officially launched at SED, is a Cumbrian hirer. Keswick-based Stan Crozier Plant Hire has added the machine to its fleet for grounds work and excavation tasks. “The 3.5 tonne machine is very powerful and its compact dimensions enable it to get into tight places,” says Stan Crozier. “Its roomy cab makes a big difference when working all day.” The TB235, which features a larger, tilted dozer blade compared with its predecessor, the TB135, comes with a quick-release front window for ventilation, or air conditioning is available as an option. The machine will be displayed on Takeuchi’s Saltex stand.

Recently, Stan Crozier has added another ‘plant’ dimension to his business. His daughter, Alison, is a qualified horticulturalist who can design and build landscaped gardens, as well as giving advice to customers on machinery required for the ground work.

JCB launches out-front mower

JCB’s comprehensive Saltex display will include its two most recent introductions that have now entered full production, namely the FM30 out-front mower and the Groundhog 4x4 utility vehicle. The former is available with 1.5 and 1.8m rotary decks, or with a 1.4m wide twin-flail deck that is claimed to be able to cut high scrub in one pass. Its front hammer flails cut the grass and the rear flails provide a mulching effect. JCB says the flail deck’s performance enables it to be used for cutting areas like sports fields, as well as highway verges and banks. The mower itself is powered by a diesel engine and has two-range hydrostatic transmission.

The Groundhog 4x4 utility vehicle has a 26hp diesel engine and has a top speed of 31mph. It has CVT four-wheel drive transmission with high and low ranges, with all-wheel hydraulic disc brakes and independent suspension at each wheel. Strong demand for Seddons tracked dumpers

Seddons (Plant & Engineers) reports strong demand from national and local independent hirers for its compact tracked dumpers, manufactured in association with Honda. PSM Plant & Tool Hire Centres, based in Kent, has several in its fleet. “It was the best thing we did getting Honda TD500 High Lifts,” says Michael Barton, Hire Manager. “We hire them to railway contractors for track sides and bank work, DIY customers needing equipment to overcome access problems, and landscapers”.

Plantool Hire Centres, which has six outlets in the Midlands, offers its tracked dumpers with a mini excavator as a cost-effective package. “We achieve a better hire rate for both items,” claims Managing Director Rodger Webb. “The High Lift version is excellent value for money and quieter than diesel equivalents.”

A-Plant and Speedy also offer the machines, which feature hydrostatic drive and rubber tracks for traction with minimal ground disturbance. At only 680mm wide it fits through a standard doorway, and a discharge height of up to 1220mm enables the TD500HL to tip its maximum 500kg payload into skips.
