Executive Report:

International selection

Suppliers exhibiting at the International Rental Exhibition in Amsterdam last month were seeking new hire customers throughout Europe for their latest products.

Thwaites shows a swivel

Dominating Thwaites’ stand was the company’s new 1.5-tonne Alldrive Powerswivel hydrostatic compact dumper, which has an unladen weight of 1355kg and a maximum safe load of 1500kg. The skip on the machine, which made its UK debut at SED in May, can rotate through 180¾. Sales Director Ian Brown told EHN that exports to Europe represent approximately 30% of Thwaites’ sales, with the majority being to hirers, such as Cramo, Loxam, Bo-rent and Boels, as well as many smaller companies.

MCS launches French module

MCS launched the French language version of MCS-crm, its customer relationship management module for its MCS-rm software, for monitoring business leads and developing focused marketing initiatives. Morane Trabelsi, Director of the software supplier’s French distributor says that sales are growing at a rate of 30% per year to companies hiring tools and equipment, plant and vehicles. He adds that many organisations are replacing old Unix-based software with Windows-based systems, such as MCS-rm.

Sumner launches compact lift

New from Sumner Manufacturing is the 2412 materials lift, a compact model weighing 68kg and with a 182kg load capacity. It extends manually to a maximum height of 3.66m, and the forks are reversible. The legs fold for easy transportation. European Sales Manager, Rupert Organ, who is based at Sumner UK in Telford, says that interest in such equipment continues to grow in response to manual handling legislation. He adds that particularly strong markets include The Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and France.

Western tanks full of opportunity

The Transcube double-walled, bunded diesel fuel tank was among the main features of the Catalana de Motores stand, the Spanish distributor for Western Environmental. The product has UN Intermediate Bulk Container approval for road transportation and is designed to meet the PPG2 pollution prevention guidelines for storage. It is available in 500 and 959-litre models.

Western’s Sales Manager, Murray Leflaive, says the company has targeted European markets for several years. “This has steadily developed from supplying major UK-based hirers, such as Aggreko and Energyst, which also have clients on the Continent. This has raised awareness of our products amongst other European hirers, especially in Spain, France, Belgium and Sweden.”

GenSet seeks powerful growth

GenSet launched a new Power2Pump branding at the Show, which will be used for marketing its pumping equipment in countries outside the UK and Eire. Chairman Josh Llewellyn says that the company enjoys strong sales of its generators and other products to hirers in Holland, Belgium, Germany and France, and that it is seeking additional distributors in several other countries. “Demand for equipment is set to grow further as pan-European power requirements increase,” he said.

Sister company GenQuip’s display included its latest Groundhog mobile welfare unit, the GP360-12V, which is fully battery powered, dispensing with the need for the LPG or diesel generator to be in constant operation. Only when battery levels fall to a certain level does a generator start automatically to recharge the cells.

Dantherm’s drying solutions

Denmark-based Dantherm Air Handling, whose UK operation is in Clevedon, west of Bristol, promoted its new portable AD-series B dehumidifiers, designed for drying out flood damaged structures and new buildings, even at winter temperatures. They incorporate two principal sections. In the drying zone, extracted air passes through a silica gel rotor that absorbs moisture and retains the dried air. In a regeneration section, hot air is blown through the rotor in the opposite direction to dry the gel and vent the extracted water through an outlet hose.

Also promoted was the mobile CDT range, which can operate at temperatures from 3-30º C and have large rubber wheels for manoeuvrability. Sales Manager Jacob Andreasen told EHN that the company expects strong demand in the UK and other countries if flooding and extreme weather conditions are experienced, as predicted.

TCP targets Europe

The weakness of the pound against the euro is encouraging Essex-based Taylor Construction Plant (TCP) to focus more attention on sales to the Continent of its lighting towers, tracked dumpers and compact crushers. “The current exchange rates makes our products even more competitive,” contends Managing Director, Andrew Barker. “Our Ecolite mobile lighting tower meets the environmental requirements and road-towing regulations throughout the EU. We have further reduced the fuel consumption of the machine, now being only 0.5 litres/hour, and this is increasingly important as fuel costs rise.” The Ecolite has four metal halide lamps and runs for 200 hours per tankful of fuel.

inspHire reports growing market

inspHire promoted its software solutions developed for hire companies of all sizes. It also demonstrated its customer relationship management package, mobile working technologies and its WebPortal, which gives hirers’ customers round-the-clock access to their transaction details.

Peter-Jan Hendrikx from the inspHire International BV distributor, based in Utrecht, says that the market in Holland continues to expand, and that hire activity in Germany is beginning to develop as tradesmen and homeowners realise the benefits of hiring equipment compared with outright purchase.

Heavy-duty HTC dust collectors

Swedish floor preparation equipment specialist, HTC, launched the iAD (industrial automatic dust extraction) range of dust collectors for floor grinding machines. Business Unit Manager, Henrik Pettersson, describes them as being two products in one, as they incorporate a pre-filter to separate out tiny particles, which also reduces the effort demanded of the main filter.

The vacuum units can be lowered and rotated for filter changing and to facilitate transportation, and a pallet can be placed underneath to collect the heavy-duty dust bags with minimal manual handling. The 5 iAD, 10 iAD and 15 iAD models accept one, two and three high-capacity dust bags respectively, and the largest machine can be used in conjunction with more than one floor grinding machine. HTC has its UK office in Milton Keynes.
