SED 2007 Preview:

Steady expansion

A dedicated demonstration area will enable Seddons to promote its latest launches at SED later this month.

Seddons Plant & Engineers continues the expansion of its product range for the tool hire and construction industries, and SED provides the opportunity to highlight new developments. These include variations to existing lines, as well as brand new equipment. The company’s stand will incorporate displays featuring items from major Seddons business partners, joining those from the Bolton-based company itself.

Seddons is the sole UK mainland distributor of Mac&Bell security products and an enhanced version of its Tool Lock will be shown. “New features have been incorporated following feedback received from hirers when we exhibited a prototype at the Executive Hire Show,” states Phil Winnington, Sales and Marketing Director of Seddons. “It is more robust and weatherproof with a die-cast metal casing, and accepts larger cables. A new pricing structure allows for promotional discounts.” The user loops the product around equipment and uses a key fob control to set the product, which contains a motion sensor. Should the tool be moved, the alarm sounds. Power comes from a rechargeable battery. Also on display will be the Van Lock, which automatically contacts the owner via mobile phone if the vehicle is broken into. Wired into the interior lighting circuit, it is similarly set and deactivated by remote control.

Seddons also distributes Buddy Welders equipment and will display the latest model. Designed to meet EU requirements on weight and noise, the BW 150 Micro provides 150A of DC welding output at a 100% duty cycle, as well as 1,000watts of AC auxiliary power for equipment such as lighting and tools. It incorporates a Honda engine with an enclosed auto-idle system operating on both AC and DC outputs, increasing fuel efficiency and engine life.

On a demonstration area opposite the main stand, machines featured will include the latest concrete chainsaw from ICS. The 633GC has a 6.5hp two-stroke petrol engine, provides deep plunge cutting up to 40cm and is designed to enable square openings to be made without over-cuts. It has a rear air intake and filtration system designed for wet cutting, a new ignition system and improved crankcase protection. The existing 4.2hp 603GC model, which can deep plunge cut to 25cm, will also be featured, and both tools are said to be competitively priced.

The demonstration area will also feature MBW concrete finishing products. The ScreeDemon screed is designed to level, vibrate and finish slabs in one operation. Special mountings are incorporated to reduce HAV and a simple rubber isolator drives the eccentric. Screed bars can be fitted quickly using a straightforward clamp system rather than bolts. MBW’s compact MK8-75 ride-on power trowel will be included in the display. The machine weighs 197kg, features twin 76cm rotors and can be placed on concrete sooner than heavier machines. Synchronised steering boosts manoeuvrability and the machine can complement larger equipment for work at edges and tight corners. MBW’s ‘ultra low’ vibration plates will also be put through their paces.

The Seddons stand will include Honda portable EU generators designed for low noise, reduced exhaust emissions and portability, such as are used in camping and caravanning, as well as models for construction sites. Working on the demonstration area will be the Honda TD500HL walk-behind compact tracked dumper. With a carrying capacity of 500kg, its maximum discharge height of 1200mm enables it to tip directly into skips and onto raised areas. Also promoted will be the new Seddons Johnson Bowser Jetter, available in petrol and diesel versions, which is designed for dust suppression and pressure washing. Phil Winnington contends that “products like these will show construction professionals visiting SED the efficiencies they can achieve, and this will, in turn, create demand for hirers.”
