Report:
Catch
the
small
Rhino
EHN
reports
on
a
new
mobile
crusher
targeted
at
the
tool
and
equipment
hire
industry.
Legislation
has
been
passed
in
recent
years
regarding
the
disposal
of
construction
by-products
such
as
stone
and
rubble.
Environmental
taxes
have
been
brought
in
to
discourage
the
use
of
extracted
aggregate
and
encourage
the
application
of
recycled
materials.
These
include
the
Aggregate
Levy,
a
tax
on
sand,
gravel
and
rock
commercially
exploited
in
the
UK,
and
the
Landfill
Tax,
which
is
imposed
on
businesses
or
local
authorities
disposing
of
waste
at
a
landfill
site.
This
has
led
to
keen
interest
in
mobile
crushing
products,
which
can
represent
a
lucrative
hire
opportunity.
Red
Rhino
Crushers
is
developing
products
targeted
at
this
market.
Managing
Director
Colin
Campbell,
who
has
a
background
in
inventing
construction
equipment
such
as
automated
batching
plant,
developed
the
first
unit
at
his
own
house
several
years
ago,
and
has
refined
the
technology
since.
The
company
recently
opened
a
new
factory
in
Wendover,
Buckinghamshire,
occupying
14,000ft2
with
a
staff
of
17,
and
production
of
a
range
of
Red
Rhinos
is
well
under
way.
To
date,
the
principal
machine
offered
has
been
the
5020
tracked
crusher.
Powered
by
a
3-cylinder
diesel
engine
it
weighs
2750kg
and
can
be
towed
on
a
standard
plant
trailer.
The
jaw
aperture
is
500
by
200mm
and
the
final
yield
can
be
hydraulically
adjusted
between
5-100mm.
It
is
designed
to
process
materials
such
as
concrete,
paving
slabs,
bricks,
tiles,
kerbstones,
flint
and
granite,
and
the
output
material
can
be
used
as
hardcore
or
for
decorative
finishes.
The
5020
has
proved
popular
with
owner-operators
and
small,
specialist
companies
that
hire
the
machine
with
or
without
an
operator
for
as
much
as
£250/day,
according
to
Red
Rhino.
However,
this
months
Hire
Show
will
see
the
launch
of
a
smaller
machine
aimed
squarely
at
tool
and
equipment
hire
outlets.
The
new
4015
weighs
1300kg
and
has
a
maximum
output
of
10
tons/hour.
Powered
by
a
diesel
engine
as
standard,
with
the
option
of
a
petrol
power
unit,
it
has
a
jaw
opening
of
400
by
150mm
and
an
output
size
of
between
5-80mm.
A
major
feature
on
our
machines
is
the
jaw
crusher
design,
contends
Sales
&
Marketing
Director
Ben
Latham.
It
features
a
fixed
plate
with
an
angular
jaw
plate
moving
against
it
with
a
rotary
action.
This
helps
draw
material
into
the
crusher
and
creates
a
wider
opening.
The
4015
can
even
accept
kerbstones
easily.
The
conveyor
belt
assembly
is
enclosed
so
that
material
cannot
fall
inside
and
damage
the
rollers,
while
the
belt
itself
is
moulded
in
a
continuous
loop
without
a
weld,
doing
away
with
a
potential
weakness.
The
output
size
is
controlled
via
a
simple
adjustment
wheel,
making
it
easy
to
use.
The
4015
features
retractable
tracks
enabling
it
to
access
back
gardens
easily
and
to
work
inside
buildings,
gaining
entry
through
standard
doorways.
Like
the
5020,
it
can
be
fitted
with
a
screening
attachment
that
enables
topsoil
and
debris
to
be
separated
from
the
uniformly
sized,
crushed
material.
The
soil
can
be
re-used
on
site,
bringing
further
cost
savings.
Work
is
under
way
on
a
larger
Red
Rhino,
the
7040,
scheduled
for
launch
before
the
summer.
We
will
market
the
7040,
5020
and
4015
as
the
Maxi,
Mini
and
Micro,
targeted
respectively
at
construction
industry
users,
smaller
contractors
and
the
hire
industry,
states
Ben
Latham.
We
will
promote
the
two
current
machines
at
the
Hire
Show,
together
with
finance
packages
developed
by
SKM
Asset
Finance,
which
is
also
exhibiting.
We
are
very
excited
by
the
potential
of
the
4015
Micro.
It
fits
neatly
with
tool
and
equipment
hirers
fleets,
alongside
products
like
mini
excavators
and
dumpers.
Using
mobile
crushers
brings
saving
for
the
customer,
profits
for
the
operator
and
benefits
to
the
environment.
We
are
establishing
a
hire
locator
service
on
our
website
to
enable
enquirers
to
find
their
local
Red
Rhino
crusher
stockist,
to
help
hirers
win
business.
